How long does an AI ad actually take?

Brands ask us this question first, every time. Marketing decks promise 2-day ads. Agency reps say 3 months.

The truth is somewhere in between, and it depends entirely on what you're making. Here's our honest timeline for an AI ad in 2026, based on 350+ shipped projects.

A · STANDARDThe default timeline

Two weeks. Brief to finished film.

Most AI ads we deliver take 2 weeks. Here's exactly what happens, day by day.

  1. D1–2
Brief and direction lockBrief review and questions. Moodboard exchange. Direction lock (visual references, tone, energy). Rough storyboards. Quote and contract signing.
  2. D3–5
Character and environment sheetsBuild character sheet (200–400 image generations). Build environment sheet (100–300 image generations). Brand approval. Lock the visual bible.
  3. D6–9
Shot generationGenerate the actual film shots (50–200 video clips). 3–5 versions per shot. Manual QC. Re-generate failures.
  4. D10–12
Edit and postCut the rough edit. Colour grading. Sound design (often real audio, not AI). Voiceover (real human, often). Music. Final delivery format (16:9, 9:16, 1:1, multiple languages).
  5. D13–14
Revision roundsBrand review. Two rounds of feedback typically. Final delivery.

What moves the timeline.

Some projects ship in 1 week. Some take 8. Here's what speeds you up — and what slows you down.

⌖ FASTER

Under 2 weeks

Simple product ad with a single hero shot. Brand has existing character assets (logos, products, ambassadors). No language variants. Quick approval cycles on the brand side.

⌖ STANDARD

2 weeks

Multi-cut campaign (3–5 ratios, 2–3 languages). Custom character sheet (one new character). Standard revision rounds.

⌖ SLOWER

3–8 weeks

Multiple new characters that need bibles. Cultural specificity (mythology, period work). Complex motion (battles, car chases, action). Long-form (over 60 seconds). Animation styles that need decoding (Arcane, Spider-Verse, AAA gaming).

⌖ SLOWER STILL

8–12+ weeks

Short films or narrative work. Multiple environments and locations. Heavy hybrid workflow (lots of real footage to integrate). Multiple language voiceovers with lip-sync.

B · REALITYWhat people miss

Generation is the fast part.

Most projects spend only 30% of total time on generation. The other 70% is briefing, direction, edit, and post.

If a studio quotes you 3 days for a 60-second cinematic ad, they're skipping at least one of: character sheet (you'll get generic faces), real edit (you'll get raw AI footage), colour grade (you'll get plasticky output), sound design (you'll get AI-synthesized audio), or revision rounds (you'll get the first cut).

That's why 3-day ads look like 3-day ads.

C · ACCELERATEFrom your side

Three things that cut timeline by days.

  1. 01
Send a complete brief. The 7-section template in our brief post saves 2 to 3 days vs. iterating to understand scope.
  2. 02
Lock revisions to two rounds.More rounds doesn't make the work better. It makes it slower. Two focused rounds beats five vague ones.
  3. 03
Empower a single decision maker.Approvals by committee add a week. One person who can say yes saves 5 to 7 days.
// FREQUENTLY ASKED

Five questions on timeline.

Q.01How long does an AI ad take to make?

Standard timeline is 2 weeks from brief to finished film. Simple ads can deliver in under a week. Complex narrative or animation work takes 4 to 12 weeks.

Q.02Can you make an AI ad in 24 hours?

Technically yes, but it'll show. We don't take projects under 1 week because the quality drops noticeably.

Q.03What's the longest AI project you've worked on?

A 4 minute 30 second short film for an Indian film festival. Total timeline: 8 weeks.

Q.04Why do some AI studios promise 2-3 days?

They're using templates, skipping character bibles, and not doing real post-production. The output looks like a template.

Q.05How many revisions are typical?

2 rounds for most projects. Locked in the contract upfront. Beyond that, we charge extra to keep timelines honest.
